Representing Canada on the World Stage

What is Competition Aerobatics?

Unlike airshows designed for crowd entertainment, competition aerobatics is a precision-based discipline judged on technical accuracy rather than spectacle. Pilots perform a series of meticulously executed maneuvers—called figures—at specific altitudes, all evaluated by a panel of aerobatic judges.

There are five levels of competition:

 Primary - Sportsman - Intermediate - Advanced - Unlimited

Competitions take place worldwide, from Europe to South Africa, the U.S., Brazil, Australia, and beyond. Since 2016, I have regularly competed in regional and national championships in Canada and the U.S., earning podium finishes in over 85% of my competitions.

At the highest level, three World Aerobatic Championships exist for Intermediate, Advanced, and Unlimited. In 2023, I had the honour of serving as the captain of Team Canada at the World Advanced Aerobatic Championship. While continuing to compete in regional and national events, I am now preparing to represent Canada at the 2026 World Unlimited Aerobatic Championship.

Why Aerobatics Produces the World’s Safest Pilots

Competition aerobatics isn’t just about pushing limits—it’s about mastering precision and control. Pilots who train for competition develop advanced stick-and-rudder skills, superior situational awareness, unusual attitude recovery, and the ability to manage high-stress environments with confidence.

This level of proficiency directly translates to safer skies. Many aerobatic competitors come from diverse aviation backgrounds—private pilots, corporate pilots, and airline captains—all of whom sharpen their flying abilities through precision aerobatics. The discipline instills unparalleled aircraft handling skills, making aerobatic-trained pilots among the safest in the industry.

By promoting competition aerobatics, we’re not just celebrating a sport—we’re elevating aviation safety worldwide.

Reviving Manitoba’s Competitive Aerobatic Scene

For decades, Manitoba had no provincial aerobatic championships—until 2021. Recognizing the gap, I took the initiative to bring competition aerobatics back to the province, creating an opportunity for local pilots to test their skills and welcoming competitors from across Canada and the U.S.

That year, I founded the Central Canada Aerobatic Championships, which has since become a cornerstone event for the aerobatic community. With invaluable contributions from Abram Razon and Jesse Mack, the competition quickly grew into a premier event. Its success led to an incredible milestone—becoming the official host of the Canadian National Aerobatic Championships in 2023, and 2024.

Will we be hosting the 2025 Canadian Nationals? Stay tuned!

Get Started in Aerobatics or Competition Today!

Did you know you can start aerobatics and even compete before earning your pilot’s license?

Many student pilots begin competing at the Primary level with an instructor as their safety pilot. You also do not need to own an aircraft—Harv’s Air School offers aerobatic lessons and rentals in a fleet of Citabrias and Extras, allowing you to build skills and compete.

Aerobatic training sharpens precision, control, and spatial awareness, making you a safer, more confident pilot whether you fly for fun or pursue a professional aviation career.
